GOP Congressional Leaders Boycott Health Care Advisory Board

WASHINGTON (May 9, 2013)--House and Senate Republicans leaders are telling the White House that they will not submit names for an advisory board that is supposed to play a role in holding down Medicare costs under President Barack Obama's health care overhaul.

House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell said in a letter to Mr. Obama that the Independent Payment Advisory Board would deny seniors access to care and should be eliminated.

The 15-member board would be empowered to force cuts on drug companies, insurers and other providers if Medicare costs go up.

Boehner also said the House next week will again vote to repeal the health care act.

Republicans have tried dozens of times to overturn the act since it became law in 2010.
