House Republicans Take Anti-Washington Message Home

ORRVILLE, Ohio (August 21, 2013)--House Republicans are using town hall meetings and other gatherings in their districts to push an anti-Washington message during the August recess, even though they're in the majority in the House.

Republicans say they only control a portion of the federal government and are pushing a series of measures to grow the economy, address energy production and cut regulations, but they blame Senate Democrats and President Barack Obama for stopping progress.

The message intends to counter arguments by Democrats that House Republicans are responsible for a "do nothing" House, denouncing the president's health care law and taking a slower, step-by-step approach to revamping immigration.

Republicans say the House is the only check on Mr. Obama's agenda, a message that could be a preview to their argument to voters in next year's midterm elections.
