Hundreds Of Texas House Bills Are Dead—At Least For Now

AUSTIN (May 10, 2013)—A deadline for passing legislation proposed by lawmakers in the Texas House has passed, killing hundreds of bills, many of which never even made it to the floor for debate.

Some could be resurrected, however.

Any issue still has time to win approval in the Senate, or could be revived as an amendment to something else that becomes law at the last minute.

But many bills that once seemed vitally important are dead including a proposed, bipartisan deal to let Texas work with the federal government to extend some health care coverage to the uninsured statewide and a plan to spend $2 billion on Texas' long term water plan.

The clock even ran out on a much-watched, proposed ban on abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
