WASHINGTON (June 19, 2013)--Hundreds of people rallied Wednesday outside the U.S. Capitol to protest abuses by the Internal Revenue Service.
U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., told the rally organized by Tea Party Patriots that he was horrified to learn of government officials "persecuting people for their religious and their political beliefs."
U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, denounced the questions that a group opposing abortion was asked when it applied for a tax exemption.
"The IRS has no business asking any American, 'What are the content of your prayers?” he said.
Rally speakers called for the abolition of the IRS and for a flat tax that would require all Americans to pay something.
Talk show host Glenn Beck delivered a lengthy tirade against political corruption and urged Americans to turn back to God.
