WASHINGTON (July 10, 2013)—U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry paid tearful thanks Wednesday for the outpouring of good wishes for his hospitalized wife Teresa Heinz Kerry whose condition is improving, he said.
Kerry, looking weary, spoke Wednesday at the opening of U.S.-China talks at the State Department after returning to Washington from his wife's hospital bedside in Boston.
"Teresa is doing better, under evaluation and we hope improving,” he said.
He says he wanted to thank everybody for "the remarkable outpouring of good wishes. It's really been very special."
He said that when his wife is able, she will "tell everyone herself."
Heinz Kerry, 74, was hospitalized after becoming ill Sunday on the Massachusetts island of Nantucket, where the couple owns a home.
