Older Voters Are Looking Beyond Medicare, Social Security

WASHINGTON (September 27, 2012)--Seniors have money on their minds as Election Day approaches and they vote at a higher rate than any other age group, so they'll be a deciding factor in the presidential election.

Seniors have backed the Republican candidate in the last two presidential elections, but President Barack Obama has been pounding Republican Mitt Romney on Medicare and is gaining ground among seniors in Ohio and Florida.

Still, Romney has the edge nationally among seniors, largely because of concerns about Mr. Obama's handling of the economy.

Many seniors have had to bail out adult children who've lost their jobs and retirees are at a loss to recover when the value of their investments and savings decline.

Both candidates are aggressively courting seniors but have focused primarily on entitlements.
