AUSTIN (August 1, 2013)—Texas Gov. Rick Perry is headed to New Orleans to address the same conservative conference at which he launched his unsuccessful 2011 White House bid.
Spokesman Josh Havens said Thursday that Perry will attend the fifth annual RedState Gathering.
At the same event in August 2011 in Charleston, S.C., Perry announced he was running for president.
He was briefly the front-runner for the Republican nomination, but dropped out of the race in January 2012.
Perry has ruled out seeking a fourth full gubernatorial term next year, but hasn't said if he will mount another presidential run for 2016.
RedState says other confirmed speakers include Perry’s fellow Texan and tea party U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, as well as Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Gov. Nikki Haley of South Carolina.
