Perry Says Boy Scouts Should Stand Their Ground On Gays

AUSTIN (February 3, 2013)--Texas Gov. Rick Perry says he hopes the Boy Scouts of America doesn't move to soften its mandatory no-gays membership policy.

Perry addressed an annual gathering of Scouts from around Texas on Saturday and when asked about the policy afterward, he said "I think most people see absolutely no reason to change" it.

Perry's 2008 book "On My Honor" details his love for the Scouts and why the group should continue to embrace conservative values.

Profits from the book went to the Boy Scouts of America Legal Defense since "they continue to be under attack from the forces of secularism."

The Boy Scouts reaffirmed the no-gays policy seven months ago, but the group now says it may allow different religious and civic groups sponsoring Scout units to each decide how to address the issue.
