Right To Life, Pro Choice Demonstrators Gather At Texas Capitol

AUSTIN (July 1, 2013)--People on both sides of the abortion debate gathered Monday at the Texas Capitol as lawmakers returned for a second special session to take up a measure imposing new abortion restrictions that failed to pass during the waning hours of the first special session.

Gov. Rick Perry called lawmakers into a 30-day special session to address the bill after a Senate filibuster and a loud crowd helped defeat it last week.

Many of the more than 1,000 protesters gathered outside the Capitol Monday wore orange shirts with the words "Unruly Mob" on the back.

That's what Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst called the raucous protesters last week who shouted down senators trying to vote on the bill.
One sign seen Monday read, "Life begins with a new governor."

Meanwhile blue-clad supporters of the bill were singing "Amazing Grace" and some anti-abortion protesters wore red tape over their mouth showing the word, "Life."

Anti-abortion protesters recited the Lord's Prayer in advance of their own afternoon rally.
