WASHINGTON (August 3, 2012)--Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Friday the tenth-of-a-point increase in the U.S. unemployment rate is a 'hammer blow' to middle-class families.
Romney released a statement shortly after the Labor Department announced that the jobless rate was 8.3 percent in July, up slightly from 8.2 percent in June.
The economy added 163,000 jobs last month, the best hiring since February.
Romney says Americans deserve better than an unemployment rate that has been above 8 percent for more than three years.
He said President Barack Obama doesn't have a plan to boost economic growth.
Romney said his economic plan would create 12 million new jobs by the end of his term in office.
