Ryan Wants Romney Elected “By Acclamation”

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (September 27, 2012)--GOP Vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan said Thursday he wants the Republican campaign message to be so detailed and compelling that Mitt Romney will be elected "by acclamation."

The Wisconsin congressman said Thursday at a $1,000-per-plate at a Knoxville, Tenn. hotel that the GOP message contrasts with what he called the divisive tactics of Democratic President Barack Obama in the closely contested race.

When a legislative body votes by acclamation, it forgoes formal balloting for a voice vote.

Campaign spokesman Michael Steel said the remarks reflect Ryan's hope for a clear victory to give a new administration a mandate in office.

Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam introduced Ryan at the luncheon and said it raised about $1 million.

Meanwhile, about a dozen protesters lined the street outside, banging drums and waving signs.
