BOSTON (July 8, 2013)--Teresa Heinz Kerry, 74, the wife of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, was hospitalized Sunday after exhibiting symptoms consistent with a seizure, a person in close contact with the family said.
A spokesman for John Kerry said Heinz Kerry was flown Sunday night to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after doctors at a hospital on Massachusetts' Nantucket Island stabilized her condition.
A spokesman for Nantucket Cottage Hospital said Heinz Kerry arrived in critical condition, but doctors were able to stabilize her.
The secretary of state was with his wife as an ambulance transported her to the island hospital, and also during her transfer to the Boston facility.
Her condition was upgraded to fair Monday.
Heinz Kerry, the widow of former U.S. Sen. John Heinz, heir to the Heinz ketchup fortune, married John Kerry in 1995.
