Special Election Announced To Replace Texas Lawmaker

AUSTIN (July 19, 2012)--Voters in a South Texas legislative district will pick a replacement for State Rep. Veronica Gonzales on Nov. 6.

Gov. Rick Perry Thursday announced that a special election to replace Gonzales will be held at the same time as the general election.

Gonzales resigned June 29 as representative of District 41.

The Democrat from McAllen, who's an attorney, accepted a job with University of Texas-Pan American as vice president for university advancement.

Perry said candidates to fill the remainder of the term have until Aug. 23 to apply.
