Texas DA Acquitted In Contempt Of Court Case

DALLAS (August 23, 2013)--A judge has acquitted Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins of contempt of court in a case that began when Watkins declined to testify at a court hearing.

State District Judge Bob Brotherton ruled Friday in favor of Watkins, who was facing a $500 fine.

The case for which Watkins was held in contempt also attracted the attention of the FBI, which has asked for access to files.

In March Watkins refused to answer allegations that his office prosecuted an heir to an oil fortune as a favor to a friend and campaign donor.

State District Judge Lena Levario held him in contempt and threw out the mortgage fraud cases against the heir, Al Hill III.
