Texas Federal Courthouse To Be Named For Bushes

MIDLAND (July 12, 2013)--Midland's federal courthouse was being rededicated Friday in honor of former presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush.

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn R-Texas and U.S. Rep. Mike Conaway, R-Midland, were among the dignitaries scheduled to attend the Friday afternoon ceremony in the Bushes' former hometown.

Both lawmakers led the effort to have Congress rename the courthouse.

The building will be called the "George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush United States Courthouse and George Mahon Federal Building."

Previously, the building's official name was the "George Mahon Federal Building United States Courthouse" in honor of a longtime Democratic congressman who once represented Midland.
