AUSTIN (August 7, 2014) State Sen. Leticia Van De Putte, D-San Antonio, and state Sen. Dan Patrick, R-Houston, have yet to agree to a single debate in their race for lieutenant governor, but on Thursday they did appear at the same event to talk business.

Van de Putte spoke at Thursday's annual conference of the Texas Association of Broadcasters in Austin and Patrick, a tea party favorite, spoke a short time later.

Both said they were pro-business enough to keep Texas' economy humming.

Van de Putte recently unveiled a plan to overhaul public education.

She wants to replace the five standardized exams currently required to graduate high school with a single diagnostic assessment of college readiness.

Patrick has pushed a hardline immigration stance, calling for securing the Texas-Mexico border above all else.
