SAN ANTONIO (February 25, 2014) Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson is proposing a state takeover of Alamo Plaza, the downtown San Antonio square in front of the old mission managed since 2011 by Patterson's office.
Diego Bernal, the city council member whose district includes the mission and square, says not so fast, however.
He said a 21-member committee to be formed March 6 to study the square could consider the idea during its 18-month review.
Patterson is a candidate in a four-man race for the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor.
He said he supports city efforts to update its 1994 master plan for the plaza, but said he expects a consensus among 21 panel members for what to do with the plaza will be hard to reach.
