WASHINGTON (September 1, 2010)--Union leaders are gearing up to mobilize millions of members in 26 states over the next two months as they try to help Democrats hold onto their majority in the House and Senate.
The nation's largest labor federation plans to spend more than $50 million targeting 70 House races and 18 Senate races with television ads, phone banks and leaflets.
AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka said voters can keep working to improve the economy under Democrats and President Barack Obama or return to the days "when Wall Street and corporations ran wild and controlled the agenda."
The federation is also running a nonpolitical TV ad in major markets over the Labor Day weekend to boost the image of unions as organizations that help improve the lives of working people.

Here’s the break. Labor unions provided a good result, early on. Capitalism, as most other forms of society, caters to the rich. (But in so doing, the little man makes a living.) Unions provided that good result by ‘defending’ the little man. Now, the little men are greedy, wanting what they never earned. It is no longer defense, but blatant Marxist gov’t takeover, by the unions and other communist minded people. And, yes, you find them even in Waco. There are concentrated those who vote themselves other’s wealth, without seeing it as theft. Our constitution calls for a de-centralized gov’t. You want the opposite, to get your “piece of the pie”. Greed. And when the pie is carved up, what then? Who will provide your union a place to work? That centralized gov’t? Your greed blinds you from seeing you sell your constitution for an inflated buck per hour. ‘Freedom…comes from [either] the ballot box, the jury box, or when that fails the cartridge box.’ (Paraphrased) JR
Gimme a break JR! I am not the enemy of any nation, just a guy trying to get his own piece of the pie. Labor unions were spawned by a capitalist society. Supporting one political party over another is the essence of freedom. If a party represents what you believe in, you throw your support their way...that's the American way. Speaking of: I pass through your delightful town periodically (70mph with the windows rolled up) and have noticed Democratic campaign signs in front of many interesting places (including a local church). Can it be that your neighbors don't share your pessimistic views of the future?
Butch, like I said, “Singly, the union man is OK. Collectively, they are death to our country.” I have nothing against making all you can, that’s just good sense. And, yes, I know the “way of things". My friend was a lifelong member of the Teamsters. I saw a lot of the “way of things”, through his eyes. While you’re advancing yourself, you are supporting the subversion of our country. And, your comment “so must we all unite to help our fellow workers” is straight out of the Marxist playbook. He said “Workers of the World, Unite…”. See this website. http://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1848/communist-manifesto/ch04.htm Your concept of “less desireable entrepreneurs” is also indicative of Communist thought. It certainly isn’t of freedom, nor the constitution. And, saying “Certain elected officials provide centralized control to insure …for the rest of us, is communism straight out. You are the enemy of our nation, driving it into the ground for selfish gain. JR
