TUCSON, Ariz. (February 11, 2009)--Eight Democratic members of the U.S. House are asking for a halt to new construction of a fence along the nation's border with Mexico.

The lawmakers include five Texans, Reps. Solomon Ortiz, Silvestre Reyes, Ruben Hinojosa, Ciro D. Rodriguez, and Henry Cuellar.

The eight, in a letter to President Barack Obama, asked for a suspension of construction until an evaluation of border security operations by the new administration is finished.

Arizona Rep. Raul Grijalva, the five Texas lawmakers and two from California, signed the letter.

This week's letter says there are places where fencing is feasible, but the members say the Bush administration's policy of fencing along much of the border was ill conceived because local communities and Border Patrol chiefs didn't have "meaningful input."

Why? Do the Dems like having these illegal people in the US, more than likely that is how they get voted in.
