The republicans were only in charge for 4 years 2000-2004. There was a Democratic congress from 2005-2009. :P

People who say that those that do not support the bill don't have our children's interest in mind. Wrong. It's the other way around. We do. We do not want to leave our children and their children with hyperinflation and 90% taxation (i.e. Europe). Majority of Americans did not support the government bailouts and the majority do not support global warming legislation. Both of which do not have ANYONE'S best interest in mind.

Global warming is junk science first of all. Most credible studies now indicate we are in a cooling trend. Don't let the Dems fear you into more taxes. Now, on to the substance, or lack thereof, of this bill. It's crammed with pork. Huge surprise there. Seveal members of the house stand to gain financially. Like Pelosi. Second, this is going to cost the average taxpayer much more than they know. Like the mandates for California construction standards. That will cost you more to build a home. Higher utility bills. Bottom line, anything that will cost industries money in form of taxes, that portion of the cost will be passed directly on to you, the consumer. It's simple, and very basic economics. This bill is a pork laden, back handed nightmare. The Dems even had the gall to sneak an additional 300 page addendum into the bill at 2am. Do some homework, then see what you think. Don't just jump on the Goode Family green band wagon.

The majority of the posted comments here are from absolute idiots. If we don't begin making changes now, there won't be an earth well enough to live in, so it won't matter what the tax rate is! As far as job loss goes, you all need to re-examine the previous 8 years where the Bush administration managed to mess practically everything up from the financial sector to Main Street. There has to be some regulations! Obama was delivered this mess, and he and his administration are trying to ameliorate the situation. Instead of saying "No!" to everything and pouting, how about the Republicans try to come up with alternative solutions instead? The Republicans' previous 8 year run is what got us to this point. Look at how many scandals they continue to be involved in! Do you really believe that they had you and your children's best interests in mind? Also, we need to consider what we are doing as individuals are doing to contribute to our communities.

How can being against the biggest indirect tax increase in U.S. history be considered ignorant, while the bill itself is based on ignorant misunderstandings and false premises of science? And yes, ALL costs are ultimately passed to the consumer, so it is coming out of our pockets. Businesses are not going to eat these costs. Enjoy the tripling of your electric bill, $5 a gallon gas, taxation on the miles you drive, and meters installed on your house that will shut off your air conditioning at random times during the summer. All in the name of 'global warming', the biggest hoax perpetrated on the world's public by the far left to promote their socialist agenda. This bill MUST be defeated in the senate, lest our country is in peril.

Way to go Chet and John, casting a vote for ignorance! And, some of you out there really have no idea where the tax money will come from or the business it will grow. You act like every time you hear something is going to cost money and you act like it's coming straight out of your pocket alone.

So called "global warming" that this Bill is supposed to help is the biggest hoax ever put out. There is so much science out there that shows it to be bunk. Al Gore won't even debate real science guys who know what they are talking about he is so scared of being proven wrong. This is about nothing more than governmental control over your lives. And you libs keep posting that this Bill will "only" cost 200 to 2000 a year in increased taxes. When has ANYTHING the government done cost anywhere near what is projected? If enacted this Bill will cost those who pay taxes probably not less than 5000 a year, minimum. And why is oil so bad? Because you have been told it is for so many years? We need to drill here, drill now and get this country energy independent. Nuclear plants need to be built, find a design and start building. Coal, wind, solar. Whatever works. Do it ALL!

This bill is nothing but socialist propaganda based on faulty science...and I say this as a scientist. We can only hope that this bill will fail miserably once it gets to the senate. Everyone wants clean air...but this bill has NOTHING to do with clean air or the environment. It is global wealth redistribution, which is the current administration's goal of converting the U.S. to a completely Socialist country.

We can either pay a little now to reduce energy waste and pollution, or we can pay a lot more in a few years. A tax increase of less than $200.00 a year? How much money does the average American blow on junk? To all you anti-tax "freedom lovers" - what will your plan be when the day comes that you flip the switch and nothing happens? Do you care one whit about the kind of environment you bequeath to your children and grandchildren? Or, do you believe as the Chinese government does - which is: Let's party like it's 1999...Cough, cough, choke, choke.
