LUBBOCK (July 7, 2009)--Alberto Gonzalez, who resigned as U.S. attorney general two years ago, will teach political science this fall at Texas Tech University.
The Austin American-Statesman reported Gonzalez's plans to teach at Tech on its Web site Tuesday.
Several school officials declined to comment on the story, a senior business assistant in Tech's political science department, Dora Rodriguez, told the newspaper that Gonzalez will teach a "special topics" course on contemporary issues in the executive branch.
Gonzalez served as Gov. George W. Bush's personal attorney, and then was Texas secretary of state and a Texas Supreme Court justice before joining Bush in Washington.
Texas Tech later issued a press release announcing that the former attorney general would be teaching.
“I am excited that Alberto Gonzales is bringing his experience to Texas Tech,” said Kent Hance, Texas Tech University chancellor.
“His own upbringing in Houston as part of a migrant family with eight children makes him qualified to tell underrepresented Texas students that college is possible. He will help Texas Tech and ASU prepare our students for success and to be future leaders in the State of Texas and beyond.”
