BOSTON (August 28, 2009)--Officials have closed public viewing for Sen. Edward Kennedy after he lay in repose for two days.

Leaders of the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum closed the viewing shortly before 3 p.m., about an hour and a half after they cut the line off.

The viewing covered several hours over two days, and thousands of people have filed by the flag-draped casket.

A private memorial service is scheduled at the library for Friday night.

Kennedy died of a brain tumor this week at the family compound in Hyannis Port at age 77.

A funeral Mass will be held in Boston on Saturday.

Burial is later Saturday at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.

Cellist Yo-Yo Ma and tenor Placido Domingo will perform at the funeral Mass.

The Rev. Philip Dabney, associate pastor of Boston's Mission Church, said Saturday's service will be a "regular Catholic funeral" with superb music.

In addition, there will be a contingent from the Boston Symphony Orchestra and a soprano from New York's Metropolitan Opera.

Several clergy members will be on hand.

The Rev. Donald Monan, the chancellor of Boston College, will be the principal celebrant.

The Rev. Mark Hession of Our Lady of Victories Parish on Cape Cod will delivery the homily, and Boston Cardinal Sean O'Malley will lead the final prayers of commendation.

President Barack Obama will deliver the eulogy.
