WASHINGTON (November 15, 2009)--President Barack Obama's plea for Congress to hold off on investigations into the Fort Hood shooting apparently didn’t resonate with lawmakers, who say they plan to go ahead with hearings.

In his Saturday radio and Internet address, Mr. Obama called on lawmakers to "resist the temptation" to turn the mass killing into political theater.

He said he doesn’t oppose the hearings, but said he just wants lawmakers to wait until after federal law enforcement and military authorities have completed their probes.

But lawmakers in both the House and Senate say they plan to go ahead with the investigations.

California Republican Congressman Howard McKeon says he plans to move ahead with hearings on his Armed Services Committee, but wants an investigation that won't compromise law enforcement of military probes.

Sen. Joe Lieberman said his Homeland Security Committee is opening an investigation, and Sen. Susan Collins says the panel still plans to meet Thursday.

The Maine Republican says she hopes for cooperation from the administration.

Army psychiatrist Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan has been charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder in the rampage on Nov. 5 at Fort Hood’s Soldier Readiness Center that left 13 dead and 29 injured.

The president has already ordered a review of all intelligence related to Hasan and whether the information was properly shared and acted up within government agencies.

To ME in TEXAS: So an investigation by the CID, the FBI, the Texas Rangers, & the United States Army (all government entities)is not good enough for you, yet you want bumbling, fumbling Congress to instead investigate? Is that what you are saying?

Why would any president want an inquiry into this act be held off? For what reason logically would you let evidence or any part of why grow cold? I find it strange and frightening that he would even ask something like that of our citizens or our government!
