DALLAS (February 2, 2010)--Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, renewed her claim Tuesday that lobbyists drive Gov. Rick Perry’s decisions.
Hutchison, who’s challenging Perry in the March GOP primary, spoke to a meeting of the Dallas County Republican women Tuesday.
She backed her claim by pointing to the governor's failed attempt to require vaccinating sixth-grade girls against the virus that causes cervical cancer.
Tuesday is the third anniversary of Perry's executive order, which was overridden by state lawmakers.
Perry's order angered social conservatives who said it trampled parental rights.
Perry defended his order Friday in a debate among the Republican candidates for governor.
In response, Perry’s campaign charged Tuesday that Hutchison’s vote in factor of the $700 billion Wall Street bailout was linked to lobbying on behalf of UBS by her former chief of staff Dick Ribbentrop.
“It is clear that Senator Hutchison put the interests of her former chief of staff before the people of Texas when she voted for the $700 billion Wall Street bailout,” Perry’s spokesman Mark Miner said.
