WASHINGTON (February 3, 2010)--Democrats may have lost their filibuster-proof supermajority in the U.S. Senate, but President Barack Obama told them Wednesday, “We still have to lead."
Speaking to Democratic Party's senators at a strategy conference in Washington, Mr. Obama said those who are looking for a lesson from Republican Scott Brown's victory in last month's special election in Massachusetts need to know: "The answer is not to do nothing."
Brown was elected to fill the seat of the late Edward Kennedy.
Mr. Obama reminded the group Wednesday that Democrats still hold a 59-41 majority, and urged them to continue to be aggressive in pushing legislation that will help people get jobs.
To those who face tough re-election campaigns this year, Mr. Obama said if progress is made on issues that affect people's lives, the politics "will take care of themselves."
Mr. Obama took shots at Republicans for their routine use of the filibuster to block legislation and at Washington cable news shows that are obsessed with politics.
He told the senators, "that's part of what the American people are just sick of."

First of all, I would like to state that it is my belief that you can't say "politician" in the same sentence without the word "crook" beside it! I'm going to re-enter my "conspiracy theory"! I believe that, for years, the American government has been manipulating events to set us up for failure! There is a group of the richest people in the world that want to control the world economy! Taking control of the American government is just one step required to achieve this! Obama, along with a whole list before him, is just a puppet in place to gain this control! Obama was the perfect one to achieve this goal! The past events have persuaded people to want "change"! The only thing is that O wants the change that the big boys want, and he's steadily giving it to them! Until the people take back our government by installing a congress that truly represents the people, we are doomed!
Okay, there's plenty of blame to go around, most especially we average citizens who trusted our elected representatives and did not pay attention. The point is, finger pointing and hurling insults is counter productive, as is throwing money at the problems without understanding the underlying causes. Wall street is NOT this nation's economic base. Mr and Mrs American are that base and they come in all colors.
Rachel, I forgot to mention one very important comment about your statement: "Now we have to not only get out of the poorhouse, but on the right track. And it sure isn't going to be a Republican who EVER gets us there. Sarah Palin give me a freaking break. If that is the best Republicans have to offer may God help us all." It has been McCain (you know, Palin's running mate...or the other way around, if you will)along w/ the Dem rep from Washington state that reintroduced the Glass-Steagall Act to congress in Dec. '09 to reinstate bank regulations put in place in the '30's. Haven't heard about that from Obama? Well, that would derail his rants about Rep's not working with Dem's & helping us out of this whole. The blame game is nothing more than deflecting from focusing on the job at hand & the fact everyone is so angry the job isn't getting done. 100% control & nothing done. Still hard to blame the Rep's for that. I guess they can help w/ people like McCain making the right moves.
