Texas Congresswoman Draws A Rare Challenge
Texas Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee has drawn a rare challenge and part of the reason is her appearance at Michael Jackson’s funeral.

HOUSTON (February 9, 2010)—The appearance of Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Houston, at Michael Jackson's funeral in Los Angeles last summer helped convince three-term Houston City Councilman Jarvis Johnson to mount the first credible reelection challenge of the veteran lawmaker in 16 years.

Jackson Lee makes no apologies for taking the stage at Staples Center to exhibit a large framed congressional resolution honoring the dead pop star.

She is the kind of congresswoman who appears everywhere, and even her supporters joke about her frequent speeches, broadcast on C-SPAN, to an empty House chamber and her ability to maximize her on-camera time at high-profile events.

But Johnson sees her antics as style over substance and party officials say this year is so unpredictable the race is up for grabs.

First off, you have no idea if MJ was a pedophile. MORE POWER to Sheila for honoring a world humanitarian & someone who will go down in history as a genius in all his arts. Sheila can't take 1 day off? Whether she were doing her nails or at a funeral or sleeping, everyone is entitled to 1 day off; I SUPPORT HER FULLY in honoring this man who gave more than the Rockefellers, more than anyone in the history of global charitable donations. I support her for being proud of what she believes in; what she believes in is worthy. Please do your research on Michael. I would guess you haven't done much but listen to the fabrications that the media has fed the public for 16 years. As for MJ's dependency on sleep meds, research his life. Know the context of the story. No one could have carried the lies & weight he carried and still be standing. You should be more afraid of what lies or intentionally misleading rumours anyone could print on anyone in your own back yards.

I would hope that a person who is trying to memorialize a pedophile should be voted out of office. It is a slap in the face of all victim of these predators that she would introduce such a "bull" in Congress. It is too bad we continue to make Michael a hero as "king of pop" and not the villain he should be because of his victimizing children.
