WASHINGTON (March 15, 2010)--President Barack Obama said Monday he expects to get the votes for his health care overhaul bill, telling ABC News "we're going to make this happen."
In an interview Monday, the president said Democrats are working to get a bill ready for a vote later this week.
"I believe we are going to get the votes,” he said.
He said it was imperative to act now.
He said if there's a delay, it will be too late and changes in the health care system won't be in place in three to five years, which he said would force Americans to wait another decade or more for politicians to address the problems.
He said without an overhaul, the federal government won't be able to pay its bills on Medicare and Medicaid.

WELL SAID TRAVIS, ITS ABOUT TIME SOMEONE SPOKE THE TRUTH ABOUT DEMOCRATS
I am a democrat and as much as our country needs healthcare reform this bill is definalty not the answer. the public option has been killed because the only way the president could get the votes he needs is by selling out to major insurance companies which will force people to pay extreme prices to the big insurance fat cats and if you dont then you are forced to pay a 800$ annual fine for not having insurance. This is bogus and yes I do agree that we need to end the "pre-existing condition discrimination" this bill is a carepackage to lobbiests. The president is trying to push this bill through to save face and so that he can go down in history books for accomplishing something big whether it be in the best interests of all americans or not.
I still want to know who this 'we' is that Nobama speaks about. He's sure not talking about the will of the vast majority of the American people.
