WASHINGTON (March 19, 2010)—The American Medical Association, which is the nation's largest association of doctors, and the AARP senior citizens' lobby are both endorsing President Barack Obama's revised health overhaul legislation.
Two sources speaking on condition of anonymity said the AMA would announce its endorsement Friday afternoon in a conference call with reporters.
The AMA supported earlier versions of the bill.
One of its top priorities is permanently ending scheduled cuts in doctors' Medicare reimbursements.
U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Friday she would try pushing such a bill through Congress soon.
AARP has steadily supported health overhaul efforts.
In a statement Friday it said the legislation "will improve health care for older Americans and their families."
