WACO (July 6, 2010)—McLennan County Commissioners voted Tuesday to begin their meetings with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Under guidelines approved Tuesday, the pre-meeting prayer must be nonsectarian.
Members of the clergy will be invited to deliver the prayer and lead the pledge, and commissioners said they are also open to laypeople.
If no one is available to lead the prayer, commissioners will observe a moment of silence.
They said they plan to send letters to local religious leaders inviting them to participate.

Now the county has something new to worry about. They will have to dish out more money to lawyers to prove they have a right to have a prayer. County business should be just that. If they want to pray they can do it on their own, do it at church or at home.

To George, Gerald, Freethought....if they don't want to pray, no one forces them to.....but there is NO reason that the handful that choose not to can't sit for 30 seconds with their mouths shut, and twiddle their thumbs, pray to Allah, or whatever they choose. Bet if they tried to take "worship" time away from anyone other than Christians in "other" countries, it would go over like the proverbial lead balloon. If our prisoners, immigrants, and illegal aliens are allowed to have their choice of worship materials and time to practice it in this country, why shouldnt AMERICANS be allowed the same if they choose.
