ROCHESTER, Minn. (April 19, 2010)--The doctor who’s treating the youngest daughter of former President Lyndon B. Johnson said Monday she continues to recover from a rare autoimmune disorder.

According to a statement from a family spokeswoman Monday, Luci Baines Johnson's condition continues to improve at St Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn., where Mayo Clinic doctors are treating her for Guillain-Barre syndrome, an autoimmune disease attacks the nervous system and cause paralysis.

Dr. Alejandro Rabinstein said Monday that Johnson's case may be "less severe than usual."

Johnson, 62, was flown to the clinic by air ambulance Friday, accompanied by her Austin doctor, after she experienced extreme muscular weakness.

Dr. Dudley Youman said Johnson is expected to make a full recovery, but she'll remain in intensive care for a while before returning home for physical therapy.
