Democratic Texas Senate Candidates Debate

DALLAS (June 26, 2012)—Paul Sadler and Grady Yarbrough, the two Texas Democratic U.S. Senate hopefuls, square off in a debate that won't be broadcast until the day after it's taped.

Sadler, an attorney who served in the Texas House from 1991 until 2003, will share a stage at KERA public television in Dallas with political unknown Grady Yarbrough, who has run previously as a Democrat and a Republican.

Sadler and Yarbrough were the top finishers in a crowded Democratic senatorial field in a primary election in which no candidate won a majority during last month's primary.

They meet in a July 31 runoff for the seat of retiring Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.

The debate will be taped Tuesday afternoon but won’t air until Wednesday evening on KERA.

Texas hasn't elected a Democrat to the U.S. Senate since Lloyd Bentsen won the election in 1988.
