AUSTIN, Texas (August 3, 2012)--Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst wasn’t talking Friday about his political plans after losing the U.S. Senate runoff to tea party favorite Ted Cruz.
Dewhurst Friday acknowledged missteps Friday in his once-dominant campaign for the Republican nomination, but declined to offer specifics.
Yet he said he believes one factor in his defeat Tuesday were the restless GOP voters who lumped lawmakers at all levels into their anger at Washington.
Dewhurst is an entrenched part of the Republican establishment who's been lieutenant governor since 2003.
His terms ends in 2014, but he wouldn't say Friday what his future holds.
Cruz trounced Dewhurst by about 13 percentage points in the runoff.
Dewhurst says he put about $20 million of his own money into the failed bid.
