NORTH RICHLAND HILLS (December 18, 2012)--Texas Gov. Rick Perry says concealed-handgun permit holders should be able to carry their weapons in any public place.
Perry's comment was in response to the school shooting in Connecticut that left 20 children and six adults dead.
Perry’s voice broke and he stopped for several seconds during his remarks Monday before a tea party meeting in the Fort Worth suburb of North Richland Hills.
He began his speech by addressing the Friday massacre in Newtown, Conn.
Asked by an audience member what he thought of passing new gun control laws, Perry said he's heard of one school district that’s considering whether to allow teachers or administrators to carry concealed weapons.
He also said mental health issues should be considered.
Perry said the thought of parents dropping off their children at school, never to see them again, "is not right."
