AUSTIN (March 22, 2013)--Former Texas Republican Party Chairman Tom Pauken says he plans a "grassroots campaign" to unseat Gov. Rick Perry.
Pauken told The Associated Press Friday he does not expect to raise as much money as Perry or Attorney General Greg Abbott, who has more than $18 million in campaign money, although he has not officially announced his intentions.
Perry, who has $6 million, plus the name recognition to raise much more, has said he may run for president again in 2016, but he has not ruled out running for a fourth full term as governor.
Pauken, who once worked as a White House lawyer under President Ronald Reagan, filed papers to launch his campaign this week.
He said he wants to provide "a new style of leadership in Texas."
