AUSTIN (June 27, 2013)--Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Thursday is delaying an announcement on whether he will run for re-election until after the new special session ends.
He said earlier that an announcement would come before July 1, but that was before he called a second special session, which begins on that day.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday after a speech to an anti-abortion convention in Dallas, he said any announcement will have to wait until the Legislature finishes its work.
Perry called the special session to pass new restriction on where, when and how women may obtain abortions.
Lawmakers will also consider new funding for transportation projects and a new sentencing rule for 17-year-olds who commit capital murder.
Lawmakers have 30 days to pass the bills beginning on Monday and may adjourn when finished.
