Perry To Legislature: Send Me $1.8 Billion In Tax Cuts Or Else

AUSTIN, (May 8, 2013)--Gov. Rick Perry is threatening to call a special legislative session if lawmakers don't send him a budget that includes $1.8 billion in tax cuts.

The current session of the Legislature ends on May 27.

The House late Tuesday passed a tax bill proposing $667 million in breaks for Texas businesses and Perry said Wednesday the measure was "a third of the way there."

"If folks want to go home at the end of this legislative session" he said he would have to see a budget including $1.8 billion in tax cuts.

Perry also said he wants a budget with no increases in fees for transportation and that includes $2 billion for water and infrastructure projects.

The hard line was a tactical change for Perry, who had been low-key role in pushing legislation this session.
