Prosecutor: Perry Grand Jury Probe Is Winding Down

AUSTIN (June 20, 2014) Michael McCrum, the special prosecutor who’s handling an investigation into whether Gov. Rick Perry abused his power, says the grand jury empaneled for the probe is nearly finished hearing from “all the people that we need to talk to.”

The parade of witnesses to appear before the grand jury might not include Perry.

Four current and former Perry aides Friday entered a grand jury room in the Travis County courthouse, but McCrum says he hasn't spoken to Perry and has said there aren't plans for him to testify.

At issue is whether Perry broke the law when he vowed to veto funding for anti-corruption investigators if Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg didn't resign.

Lehmberg, who was arrested for drunken driving, remains in the job.
