Runoff In New Central Texas District A Scramble For Votes

AUSTIN (July 28, 2012)--Roger Williams, a Weatherford car dealer and longtime Republican fundraiser, faces retired Army Lt. Col. Wes Riddle in the Republican primary runoff in Texas' new congressional District 25.

Voter turnout is expected to be low in the runoff election.

Both candidates have spent the last week traveling the 11-country district that stretches from the Austin area through Lampasas, Coryell, Mills, Hamilton, Bosque and Hill Counties to just south of Fort Worth to meet voters in person.

Williams, who was Gov. Rick Perry's secretary of state from 2005-2007, says the economy is the top issue and his 40 years in business gives him the experience needed to turn things around.

Riddle, a Bell County businessman and one of the state's first tea party organizers, says Williams' business experience is overrated.

He has tried to cast Williams as the kind of political insider that causes voters to distrust Congress.
