Shutdown Delays Release Texas Jobless Figures

AUSTIN (October 11, 2013)--The federal government shutdown in a budget standoff will delay next week's scheduled release of the state’s unemployment figures for September, the Texas Workforce Commission said Friday.

The commission said the Oct. 18 jobless update would be postponed indefinitely because national figures aren’t available from the U.S. Department of Labor.

The shutdown began Oct. 1, leading to furloughs for some 800,000 federal workers and the closure of many government facilities.

The TWC produces state-level monthly economic estimates in cooperation with federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.
