AUSTIN (December 4, 2012)--Republican Comptroller Susan Combs said Tuesday "there are some warning signs in Texas" when it comes to some public pension obligations.

The state's chief accountant on Tuesday cited the city of Houston's embattled pension system as an example, but Combs said the state's two biggest pension funds, the Employee Retirement System of Texas and the Teacher Retirement System of Texas, show stability.

Her new report on pensions is the last in a four-part series on public money in Texas.

Combs said the reports are driven by transparency, but there's also a whiff of political ambition behind the series.

Combs is widely rumored to be considering a run for lieutenant governor in 2014.

She reiterated Tuesday that she would make a decision on her future later.
