Texas State Representative Injured In Car Accident

AUSTIN (March 21, 2013)—State Rep. Rene Oliveira, D-Brownsville, was hospitalized Thursday after a car accident, Rep. Charlie Geren, R-Fort Worth Thursday announced Thursday on the House floor.

Geren said Oliveira totaled his car and was taken to an Austin hospital.

Oliveira, 58, is believed to be OK, Geren said, but he did not have more information.

Oliveira has represented his Brownsville district since 1991 and is chairman of the House Committee on Business and Industry.

He is the second Texas House member involved in a recent car accident.

State Rep. Naomi Gonazalez, D-El Paso, was arrested on drunken driving charges last week after an early morning accident near downtown.
