Tom DeLay Still Waits To Learn His Legal Fate

HOUSTON (September 23, 2012)--Former U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay is still waiting to learn his legal fate, nearly two years after he was convicted for his role in a scheme to influence Texas elections.

DeLay's three-year prison sentence has been on hold as his case has been on appeal.

He told The Associated Press his faith in Jesus Christ has helped him through this difficult time and he is ready to go to prison, if need be.

But his attorney, who says DeLay was the victim of a politically motivated prosecution, is hoping to overturn the conviction.

He will make his case to the 3rd Court of Appeals on Oct. 3 in Austin.

Prosecutors with the Travis County District Attorney's Office say their case against DeLay was never about politics.
