Former Texas State Senator, Ambassador To Sweden Dies
Former Texas State Senator Teel Bivins, who later served as U.S. ambassador to Sweden, died at his home Monday afternoon.

AUSTIN (October 26, 2009)--Teel Bivins, a former Texas state lawmaker and U.S. ambassador to Sweden, died Monday afternoon at his home in Amarillo at 61.

Family spokeswoman Sharon Miner said he battled a long illness.

The Amarillo Republican served in the Texas Senate for 15 years before President George W. Bush appointed him to be the U.S. ambassador to Sweden in 2004.

He stepped down for health reasons in early 2006.

Funeral arrangements were pending Monday.
