AMARILLO (October 27, 2009)--Paint that costs $450 a gallon could be used to spruce up the Potter County courthouse in Amarillo.

Potter County commissioners directed facilities director Mike Head to prepare a sample of the special epoxy product for window frames after an advisory committee suggested using the paint, in a restoration effort meant to keep the windows looking good for as long as 30 years.

Potter County Commissioner Joe Kirkwood, who raised questions about the cost, said paying $450 a gallon would be fine by him "if this was 100-year paint."

Kirkwood said the product sounds like something NASA uses on space shuttles.

The Amarillo Globe-News reported the paint would add about $22,000 to the $14 million restoration project.

Doesn't surprise me. After all, years ago it was reported that our Pentagon (military leaders) bought hammers for over $500.00 each, and screwdrivers for around $150.00 each. When 'officials' are spending money that's not theirs, the cost is no problem!
