EL PASO (November 2, 2009)--The federal court trial of an El Paso County state judge who’s accused of offering to trade sex and cash for help with felony cases was postponed Monday until January.

State District Judge Manuel Barraza faces is charged with mail fraud, wire fraud and lying to a federal agent.

His trial was to have started MOnday, but was delayed until Jan. 19 after his defense lawyers argued that they haven't had enough time to review evidence turned over by the government less than two weeks ago.

Barraza who has pleaded not guilty was arrested in April and accused of taking cash bribes and asking for sex from defendants including an undercover FBI agent.

He was elected in November and took office in January.

He has been free on bond since his arrest.

He should have been aware of Judge David Lanier from Dyersburg, Tennessee for doing the same thing. The state cronies wouldn't do anything but the feds got him 25 years where he is now serving.. Hope this judge get's the same!

How much you want to bet that this scum will be given no sentence, deferred adjudication, unsupervised parole, or some other sweetheart deal? Judges, cops, and politicians are not held to the same strict standard the PEONS (that's you and me) are held to. We've seen cops get away with robberies and murder, politicians violate all kinds of laws, and judges get away with anything and everything. Remember too that JUDGES ARE LEGALLY ALLOWED TO CARRY A GUN WITHOUT A LICENSE....just like cops. Liberals claim "Only the authorities should own guns...". Yeah, right! That way they can get even more graft, harrass more people, and stand as a "pilar" of the community. The reality SHOULD BE that when convicted, this judge gets a minimum LIFE SENTENCE WITHOUT PAROLE. He sat on cases and decided guilt or innocence with a jury. The jury was required to be honest. Apparently this judge wasn't required to be honest, so jail him and throw away the key!
