AUSTIN (November 5, 2009)—Texas Rangers headed to Fort Hood Thursday to assistant Fort Hood’s criminal investigation division and the FBI in the wake of the shooting rampage earlier Thursday on post that left 12 dead and 31 injured.

Gov. Rick Perry sent the Rangers in response to a request from Fort Hood’s commander.

“The Texas Rangers are an elite investigative force within the Texas Department of Public Safety and will provide assistance to federal authorities in the investigation of the tragic events that unfolded at Fort Hood,” Perry said.

Perry said “the Texas family suffered a significant loss today.”

“We are deeply saddened by today’s events, but resolve to continue supporting our troops and protecting our citizens,” he said.

Perry ordered all Texas flags lowered to half-staff until Sunday and asked “all Texans to pray for the victims, their families and the extended Fort Hood community.

The order applies to all U.S. and Texas flags under the control of the state.
