AUSTIN (November 13, 2009)--Family, friends and associates of the late president Lyndon B. Johnson gathered Friday to dedicate millions of dollars in renovations at the LBJ Library and Museum.

The federal government and the University of Texas, where the library is located, paid for the $34 million project, which included improvements to the library's outdoor plaza that's now stocked with native Texas plants beloved by Lady Bird Johnson.

U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, who spoke at Friday's ceremony, said Lady Bird Johnson, who died in 2007, and the Johnson family are "Texas treasures."

Johnson's daughter, Luci Baines Johnson, said Hutchison, once a cheerleader at the University of Texas, is still cheering for the school with her work in the Senate.
