IRVING (February 8, 2010)--Gov. Rick Perry said Monday he wants unmanned aircraft based at Houston's Ellington Field to be used for surveillance along the state's border with Mexico.
Perry said such "aviation assets" would enhance security along the Texas border.
He asked the U.S. Defense Department to allow unarmed Predator drones to be used from Brownsville to El Paso as part of training exercises.
Perry, who was in suburban Dallas on Monday before making a trip to Odessa, briefly addressed about a dozen members of the Texas Municipal Police Association, which has endorsed him in his bid against Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison and Debra Medina for the Republican gubernatorial nomination.
Perry also criticized the federal government for what he said was a failure to monitor the border.

If they cannot even protect the state mansion that sits on an acre of land, how are the going to protect the entire Texas border. Perry needs to protect his own backyard first and let the border patrol do their job without his 'help'.
What's the difference of them coming over the border when we have a lot coming from over seas. Why is it OK for them to come here and open businesses . the ones coming over the border just want jobs not open a business. So wake up . the ones coming from over seas are buying the US out.Not the Mexicans.
I thought we were already using unarmed drones at the Border! I don't care what it takes to keep the illegal's out of the United States, just do it!! Way to many are already here, and scattered all across the United States(way too many of them)!! And the 2010 Census will not be filled out by the illegal parents/grandparents/great-grandparents!! Bring on the INS busses/planes, etc.!!
