AUSTIN (March 11, 2010)—Members of the Texas State Board of Education have been urged to include recognition of America's Christian heritage as it sets standards for social studies curriculum.

The board, which began meeting Wednesday in Austin, is closely watched, because its decisions can have a nationwide impact.

Texas is one of the biggest clients for textbook publishers.

State Rep. Wayne Christian read a letter to the board from several state legislators who are members of the Texas Conservative Coalition that said the board should resist any pressure to remove "references to Judeo-Christian faiths while promoting references to other religions."

The board is expected to take a preliminary vote this week.

Final adoption of social studies curriculum standards will come in May.

I say write about history like it happened. Tell about all religions that have played a part in the building of our nation but, promote none of them.

Anyone who knows their history, knows that most of the original 13 colonies were founded by those seeking the freedom to worship as they chose. There is no way you can leave that out and still study the history of the U.S.
