DALLAS (March 15, 2010)--Thousands of illegal immigrants paid in-state tuition rates or received other financial assistance at Texas public colleges and universities across Texas in late 2009, according to figures the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board that show about 1 percent of all Texas college students, in the fall semester, benefited from a 2001 law granting such in-state tuition.

The Dallas Morning News reported Monday that the figure topped 12,000 students who are illegal immigrants, not legal permanent residents or not U.S. citizens.

The Immigration Reform Coalition of Texas filed a challenge to the state law in December.

The law requires students to attend school in the state for at least three years before graduation from a Texas high school.

Students also must file an affidavit saying they plan to seek permanent residency.

The next time you pass a contruction site see who is doing the back breaking work to build things. They are not all illegal but they are all hard workers.

this is to funny!I understand what everyone is fuzzing about, but i bet your kids haven't gone to college because they don't want to for one reason or the other. If the illegals want their education more than yours then heck let them have it if im paying taxes let it be for the ones that want it citizens or not. if they are trying to attend college it means that they are trying to better themselves to give back to this Country.Gosh didn't they teach us at school think outside the box haha, and yes talk about me n put me down but my opinion matters also as a citizen. one thing i notice about illegals its that if they get fired they do what they can to find jobs and provide to their family. So yes they are here illegaly but they are working taking jobs we do not want. Cause i sure am not going to work out in the sun..i like my air conditioner. Im not bashing out on anyone, my parents just taught me not to judge.(I mean my kids went to college because i saved $$ since the day they were born)

this is what gets everyone's goat! Not the fact that someone wrote a tribute to A Hispanic in Spanish. It's stories like this that makes us gringos say "go home mojados!" It's not right that we who pay taxes and have a hard time sending our own kids to college are FORCED to pay for Mojados education!
